Sudbury, ON – May 2, 2025 – Grey skies and the threat of rain did nothing to dampen the spirits of those in attendance on May 2nd to celebrate the grand opening of the new Habitat for Humanity ReStore at 2167 Armstrong Street. It was a banner day for the organization and the community, bringing together dignitaries, service club representatives and community members to mark the occasion. Sponsored by Desjardins Personal Financial Services, the event included a live auction, refreshments, games and the opportunity for guests to tour the facility and learn about Habitat’s work.

A fixture in the Greater Sudbury landscape for years, the ReStore, which moved from its previous location on Notre Dame Avenue in late 2024, is one of five stores in Habitat for Humanity Ontario Gateway North’s affiliate territory. Open to the public for shopping and donations since January, the new location offers donors improved access for donation drop-offs. Shoppers can browse home improvement items, furniture, appliances, lighting and décor in a bright, open space, which now includes an expanded book and media area and clothing section.

“This really is a community hub,” says Richard Barlow, ReStore manager. “The new location allows us to better serve Sudbury residents by providing a wider selection of goods, and as a social enterprise, proceeds from sales support Habitat’s build and renovation projects. It’s all about fostering strength, stability, and self-reliance through affordable housing and equity-building programs. And donors, shoppers, staff, and volunteers love the new store!”

The ReStore is fully stocked with corporate and private product donations and will soon be offering extended shopping hours. Effective May 5th, store hours will be Monday to Wednesday, 10 AM to 6 PM; Thursday and Friday, 10 AM to 8 PM; and Saturday, 10 AM to 5 PM. Donations are accepted from 9 AM and during shopping hours, and free pickup is available for larger items by booking online at habitatgatewaynorth.com/request-a-pickup/ or by calling the store at 705-669-0624.
