Greater Sudbury, ON – Habitat for Humanity Ontario Gateway North and Lockerby Legion Branch 564 today announced a fundraising partnership in support of Habitat’s affordable housing project at 416 Melvin Avenue in Greater Sudbury.
“Our partnership with Lockerby Legion Branch 564 marks a milestone. This will be our affiliate’s first affordable home designed specifically for a Veteran family,” says Kimberley Woodcock, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Ontario Gateway North. “Thanks to the contributions of local businesses, including Wilson Hope and 3rd Line Studio, the home will include accessibility features and design elements that consider veterans’ needs.”
To launch the build’s fundraising campaign, Branch 564 has donated $15,000 to the build. On hand for the announcement were Branch members, including Daryl Adams, First Vice President. Says Adams, “Branch 564 is honoured to stand with Habitat in this effort and is committed to raising the $460,000 needed to make a home possible for a Veteran family. Fundraising efforts are already underway with last Friday’s Fish Fry, where all proceeds will benefit the Melvin Avenue project. While this is an aggressive fundraising target, we’re confident that with contributions from our members and the community, we’ll meet the goal.”
The project is in the design stage, with construction completion anticipated in 2026. Work is also underway to finalize application requirements and the selection timeline.
