meet Meghan, Connor, and Myles
Myles wants to be a train conductor when he grows up. And he wants a blue bedroom. These are important considerations for a four-year-old. Myles’ parents, Meghan McIntyre and Connor Hesse can’t wait to make at least one of these dreams come true for Myles. Like so many other Habitat for Humanity
Ontario Gateway North (HFHOGN) partner families, Meghan and Connor can’t believe their good fortune at the news that their vision of home ownership is about to become a reality.
Up to now, this young couple has been navigating the logistical challenges of living arrangements between the homes of two relatives. “We’re so grateful to family, but having our own space for the first time will give us, and Myles, the freedom to grow,” says Meghan. The couple is also grateful for the guidance of the Parry Sound chapter and affiliate office of HFHOGN, who have helped steer them through the application process. “It’s all very doable with the right support. It’s been so worth it,” confirms Meghan.
Lifelong residents of Parry Sound district, the McIntyre-Hesse family enjoy everything the region has to offer. “We live in a beautiful area and we love being outside.” Four-season outdoor enthusiasts, the couple hunts, fishes and snowmobiles and includes Myles on ice-fishing adventures. Meghan, who works full-time, is involved in horse training and rides when she can. Connor, a welder who works long days, still finds the time for some pick-up hockey and is teaching Myles to skate.
What’s next for the family? Connor is looking forward to taking it all in – from admiring his new kitchen cabinets to watching Myles explore the house. For Meghan, it will be some blue paint for her son’s bedroom. And for Myles, this house has something a little extra-special. The living room window overlooks the Scotia Flats, a terrific green space bisected by… a railway track.
